Rom Valley Way, RM7

Place Name

This is a reference to the nearby River Rom, which is the name used to describe the middle stretch of the River Beam. As the name says the road is laid out in a depression. It took its name from the town Romford, which itself means a broad or wide river crossing, rather than the other way around. Before taking its new name the Rom was known as Merchedyche or dirty stream.
