Chelwood Gardens, TW9

Place Name

Named after the village of Chelwood in Somerset, one of the manors owned by the Leyborne Popham family, who inherited the North Sheen estate in 1838. This road was developed for residential use in the post World War One housing boom. The name Chelwood is thought to mean the hill farm from the Old English words ceol and wor.
