Place Name
Named after James Watney (December 18, 1800 – March 16, 1884) a brewer and landowner who resided at Haling Park, Croydon. The Watney family were the main partners in the Stag Brewery of Pimlico for much of the 19th century. The family were religious and founded Watney’s Chapel, near the Red Deer, as the first non-conformist meeting place built in the district.
