Named in honour of Thomas Fyre (c. 1710 – April 3, 1762) a painter who is best known for his claim to being “the inventor and first manufacturer of porcelain in England”. He went on to  manage the Bow porcelain factory in the mid-18th century (although the site is actually within the bounds of Newham).
