Rangoon Street, EC3N

Place Name

In 1824 the East India Company took control of Myanmar (previously Burma), a province of India at the time and whose main city as today, was Rangoon. This was one of the major sources of tea and indigo production which was stored in warehouses in this hinterland around Fenchurch Station. When the Company that controlled India on behalf of the Crown was abolished, the East and West India Docks took over the warehouses.
