Place Name

Named in honour of New Zealander Johnnie Hoskins MBE (1892 – 1987), the man credited with inventing motorcycle speedway who promoted racing at West Ham Stadium which stood on the site of this road. Having introduced the sport in Australia he emigrated to the UK where he brought and promoted the sport at Wembley and later West Ham. There are a number of local streets named after former speedway champions who were members of the West Ham Hammers squad.
