Westerley Ware, TW9

Place Name

Agricultural heritage. This was a name of a strip of meadow land to the north of Kew Green mentioned in the court rolls of 1656. The Ware is thought to be a mutation of weir, an enclosure of stakes set in a stream as a trap or preserve fish. In 1823 an Enclosure Act saw all but three acres split between George IV and a few other local landowners.
