Standard Road, EN3

Place Name

This takes its name from the Standard Freehold Land Company, of Woolwich, Kent, that in January 1886 submitted plans for six cottages in Standard Road, with permission granted they immediately sold them off the following year. They were bought by a builder from Kilburn who began work on the houses a few months later, although he was landed in trouble that autumn after being caught mixing mortar with sand taken from the road. The street was built up by 1897.
