Church Walk, TW9

Place Name

Literal, since this runs around the edge of St Mary Magdalenes, the original church which was built at the end of the 12thCentury and for 300 years was the only centre of worship in the town. James Green et al in The Streets of Richmond and Kew believe that the walk was originally to reach two cottages that were near the church in 1604, over the following decades more properties were built. Until 1860 they were counted as part of Church Court or the churchyard.
