Burdenshott Avenue, TW10

Place Name

Build on the former market gardens of the Barker family in 1928. Just a few years before the family were still employing up to 140 women to harvest, scrub and pack radishes from one of their fields. The name of the road was taken from Burdenshott Farm, near Guildford, the home of Harry Alfred Barker, whose family cultivated the local market gardens around Mortlake and East Sheen and were involved in its development.
