Place Name
An alternative spelling to Manby, owners of the Cann Hall manor estate. This road name most likely remembers Captain (later Major) William Manbey commander of the West Ham Volunteer Infantry in 1803 when war with France declared in the Napoleonic Wars. He had earlier served with the West Ham Volunteers, which had been formed in 1798.
