Place Name
Thomas Trevor (March 8, 1658 – June 19, 1730) was a lawyer, judge, and Tory politician who was Attorney-General and later Lord Privy Seal. In 1690, Trevor bought Church Hill House, which stood next to St Mary’s, East Barnet’s parish church. He promptly renamed it Trevor Park. Church Hill House itself was built in 1610, having replaced the medieval manor house for Kitcheners (or Kechyners) manor, which had once belonged to the kitchener of the monastery of St Albans. It was taken from the monks during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, Henry VIII’s land grab against the Catholic Church, and the abbey and its possessions were granted to Sir Richard Lee in 1547, when it was occupied by the rector of Barnet. Trevor Park was demolished in 1820 and replaced by a second Church Hill House in 1860. This, too, was taken down in the 1930s, but its lodge still stands. This road was laid out sometime around 1938.
