Church Way, EN4

Place Name

Originally, this was a footpath that ran behind the church, leading to the Vicarage and the Trent Church of England Primary School, and ultimately to a woodland area. Christ Church, Cockfosters, was founded by Robert Cooper Lee Bevan, a member of the family that also founded Barclays Bank. The funerary monument to the Bevan family is the largest in the graveyard. The church was designed by Henry Edward Kendall, and consecrated by Bishop Blomfield on April 9, 1839. In 1898, it was renovated and redesigned by Sir Arthur Blomfield. Tubular bells were later installed as part of a monument to former pupils of Heddon Court School who died during the First World War.
