Place Name

Inevitably for the area, this is named after Charles Darwin (February 12, 1809 – April 19, 1882) who from 1842 made Down House his home. The naturalist, geologist and biologist, is best known for his contributions to the science of evolution. And it was from the village that he compiled his notes to write his revolutionary 1859 text On the Origin of Species.
