Worlds End Lane, EN2

Place Name

A joke name, an ironic allusion to its remote location. Before 1934 this road was in Southgate, having previously formed part of Edmonton prior t0 1881. However the land on either side of it was in Enfield. In 1934 as the authorities attempted to tidy up their districts, Worlds End Lane was transferred to Enfield and in return Southgate was given a portion of Cockfosters. The name first appears on the 1867 Ordnance Survey map.
