Vine Road, SW13

Place Name

Named after Vine Cottage which stood on the west side of this road near to Upper Richmond Road and was pulled down sometime around 1914. The road first featured on the Ordnance Survey map of 1865 as ‘a lane’, on an updated version two years later Vine Cottage was named. In its Winter 2020 newsletter The Vine Road Project says: “Although we know nothing of the reason Vine Cottage was so named, except that Vine Road was named after it, we thought it would be fun and educational to actually grow some vines in our fruit growing area at the recreation ground.”
