Place Name

Named after a former manor that was north of Islington, which took its name from Tolla’s Hill, that was first recorded in an Anglo-Saxon charter around the first millennium as Tollandune. By the time the Norman’s were carrying out their great survey of England in the Domesday Book of 1086, it was spelt Tolentone and in 1274, Tolindon.
