In 1964 Thomas Alfred Jenkinson (November 28, 1911 – November 1994) was to be the last mayor to serve in the East Ham constituency before the boundaries were redrawn. He went on to sit in its successor Newham Borough Council representing the South Ward going on to win the seat at the next election four years later and in the subsequent elections in 1971 and 1974. He also sat as a member of the Greater London Council representing Newham North East from 1973 to 1977 and Newham South from 1977 to 1981. In 1990 he returned to Newham Council as a councillor for South Ward. He held the seat at the 1994 borough council election, dying in office.
