Tolworth Road, KT6

Place Name

While there is no known Saxon chief or farmer on record in this part of Kingston called Tala, which means swift in Old English, given that the term worð, meaning enclosure, is so often connected with personal names around Greater London, it is a safe assumption that Tala was the landholder. The enclosure was included in the Domesday Book of 1086 written as Taleorde and sometime around 1160 as Talewurtha and Tolworth in 1601.
