Tolworth Rise North, KT5

Place Name

There is no known Saxon chief or farmer on record in this part of Kingston called Tala, which means swift in Old English. But given that the term worð, which means enclosure and is so often connected with personal names around Greater London, it is a safe assumption that Tala was the landholder.  The enclosure was included in the Domesday Book of 1086 written as Taleorde and sometime around 1160 as Talewurtha and Tolworth in 1601.
