Named after Elizabeth Johnson (February 4, 1689 – March 17, 1752) a wealthy widow who married Dr Samuel Johnson. Johnson’s affectionate names for her were Tetty or Tetsey. She moved to Bromley while suffering ill-health but never recovered and is buried in the nearby Bromley Parish Church. Johnson was very distraught by her death and called the marriage “a love-match on both sides”.
