Place Name
A tercel is a male falcon or hawk, used in falconry. It is a Middle English word dating from around the late 14thCentury. Developers often chose names associated with the medieval Hainault Forest, which up until its disafforestation in 1851 covered this area, and this street is no exception. Unfortunately disafforestation also meant deforestation and vast swathes of ancient trees were cut down and the land converted to farming and eventually, housing. This area is one of the earlier developments, by 1898 a few houses can be seen on maps near the junction with New North Road.
