Named in honour of Stuart Nigel Lewis-Evans (April 20, 1930 – October 25, 1958) a former Formula One champion of the 50s. Although born in Luton, Bedfordshire, he grew up in Welling, where his father, Lewis ‘Pop’ Lewis-Evans, owned and ran a garage business. Stuart was killed while racing on the dusty Ain-Diab circuit during the season-ending Moroccan Grand Prix. He was airlifted back to the UK but died of his injuries.
