Station Approach, TW9

Place Name

From at least 1886 this was originally Station Road but within a few years it was given a makeover, and renamed Station Approach and the section nearest to Leyborne Park renamed Royal Parade. Kew Gardens station itself was opened on January 1, 1869 by the London and South Western Railway (L&SWR). David Blomfield in Kew Past writes: “It was not until the late 1880s that businesses began to spring up around the station, initially in wooden lock-up shops in Station Approach. Appropriately two were estate agents, one of which, Breadmores, was to remain in business for one hundred years.”
