Place Name
Thought to be named after Joshua Stanley, vicar of West Ham from 1682 to 1690, who was a regular attender and indeed chairman of the local vestry, a prototype local council. He was also apparently rural dean of Barking, a deanery extending from Hornchurch to Epping and Waltham Abbey.
