St John’s Road, TW9

Place Name

Takes it name from the local Church of St John the Divine, in Kew Road, which was completed in 1831 on land provided by the Selwyn family. The name originally applied to the northern end of today’s Church Road running from Kew Road to Sheen Road. But in 1865 it gave way to Church Road, although St John’s Villas survived but only as part of Larkfield Road. In 1886 the name reappeared and in 1895 it was confirmed by Richmond Council for the current road.
