Named after the romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (August 4, 1792 – July 8, 1822) best known for writing Ozymandias, Ode to the West Wind and To a Skylark. It is one of a number of roads named after popular poets, forming the Poets Estate which was laid out on a former playing field for Purley County Grammar School for Girls.
