Second Avenue, SW14

Place Name

The road was built in 1905. The highly unoriginal naming of this road meant that the neighbouring road called The Avenue had to change its name to First Avenue. Maisie Brown author of Barnes and Mortlake Past writes that the new Avenue along with Avondale Road, Ashleigh Road, and Cowley Road “were laid out with a mixture of houses and flats built between 1903 – 1906, much favoured by employees at the newly built bus garage in Avondale Road.”
