Rosenau Road, SW11

Place Name

Rosenau is an early 19thCentury castle on the edge of Coburg, in Bavaria, south-eastern Germany, and the birthplace of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, husband of Queen Victoria, on August 26, 1819. Queen Victoria is said to have loved it remarking: “I felt as if I should like to live here always, with my dearest Albert. If I was not what I am, this would have been my real home.” This was laid out over land that had formed part of Battersea Fields.
