Princes Road, TW10

Place Name

Developed in 1870, this was a late – or forgotten – addition to The Alberts, the small cluster of roads commemorating the Victorian Royal family. It was isolated from the rest of the development until 1892 when Richmond Council managed to secure the rights to be able to extend Audley Road as far as Princes Road. Providing a second access point for The Alberts. At the opening ceremony, the Mayor commented on this “small but very important improvement” for residents who at the time were mainly working class. Which Prince is honoured here is uncertain but continues with the royal theme.
