Pinner Green, HA5

Place Name

Literal. So-called on the Ordnance Survey map of 1822. First written down as Pinnora, from the original Anglo-Saxon words pinn and öra, meaning bank or edge, in 1232. It was a reference to the pin-shaped river bank, referring to the humped ridge traversing Pinner Park.  The name stuck and in 1332 it was spelt Pinnere and in 1483 Pynnor.
