Directional. Leading to Erith Pier which opened on August 22, 1842 for pleasure steamers which used to bring crowds from the city to the gardens nearby. The Pier Hotel opened two years later offering holidaymakers a place to stop overnight, outside the city. The Pleasure Gardens opened on July 6, 1845 offering the Victorian entertainments of a broad walk, archery field, bowling green, conservatory, maze, refreshment rooms and a fountain.
