Place Name

This blink and you’ll miss it passage by the side of the Shaftesbury pub led to the Shaftesbury annexe of the Adult College, which had previously been a tram depot and later a fire station. In 1879 there were nine houses. Today the site is used as a prep school. The name itself is most likely meant as an exhortation to scholars.
