Place Name
Named after Oxford University which was bequeathed land around Bexley by then historian William Camden (May 2, 1551 – November 9, 1623) who also gives his name locally to Camden Road. When Camden died he conveyed to the university from the Manor of Bexley £140 per annum, to provide the stipend of a history lecturer; this post is now the Camden Professorship of Ancient History.
