Old Farleigh Road, CR2

Place Name

This is an ancient Iron Age track that led from the Sussex ironfields via Farleigh, Titsey and Limpsfield Common. It is named after the hamlet of Farleigh, first mentioned in the Domesday survey of 1086 as Farlega. Its meaning is quite specific from Old English, referring as it does to a woodland clearing that has become overgrown with bracken.
