Place Name
The name, like many in this part of Bromley, on what was the Kent – Surrey border, alludes to this area being heavily forested prior to development. The road was laid out in the 1930s over a former field on the edge of Springpark Wood. Like the nearby West Wickham Common, its oak trees were likely pollarded, meaning the branches have been harvested beyond the reach of grazing animals to provide firewood and leafy forage for cattle and sheep. The Grove, Copse Avenue and The Glade were all developed at the same time.
