Place Name

It means the northern grange or outlying farms of the royal manor of Kingston, from the Old English north and bere-tūn meaning grange or barley farm. It was first recorded Norberton in 1205, some 26 years after the first mention of Surbiton (the southern grange), which was featured in records from 1179. It became Norbinton in 1219.
