Place Name
Named after one or possibly two former Deans and Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral. Peter de Newport, Archdeacon of London, held the post sometime around 1260 and Richard Newport, Bishop of London, in 1320. Several of the roads are named after former Deans and Chapter (the titular corporate body of the Cathedral) who were lords of the manor in Barnes since Saxon times.
