Place Name
Named after Mottisfont Abbey founded in 1201 as an Augustinian priory by William Briwere. It was closed down during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII and given to a favoured statesman, Sir William Sandys, who turned it into a country home. Like many of the roads in the area this was named after a former religious house in reference to the nearby Lesnes Abbey, which gave Abbey Wood its name.
