Morris Road, E15

Place Name

Originally called Charford Road when it was developed sometime between 1879 and 1882 this was renamed Morris Road sometime around 1911, perhaps to avoid confusion with the newly built Charford Road in nearby Plaistow. The Leyton History Society suggests that the new name referred to Protheroe & Morris, auctioneers, estate agents, surveyors, and valuers. The firm was established in 1834 by Alexander Protheroe and Thomas Morris, who had offices in Cheapside and High Road, Leytonstone.
