Lady Anne Middleton, wife of Sir John Lambert Middleton, inherited the estate of Aldborough Hatch from her father, Sir Nathaniel Hodges in 1747. When Sir John died in 1768, six years after his wife, it was passed to their son Sir William Middleton who in turn passed it to his son, Sir Charles Middleton, who in 1799 changed his surname to Monck. In 1828 he sold the estate to the Crown.
