Place Name

This road overlooking the railway line is named after the London and North Eastern Railway locomotive number 4468 – better known as the Mallard. Built in 1938 it was the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph. It was a regular sight on the tracks around here until it was decommissioned in 1963 around the time that this New Barnet street was being laid out.
