This road overlooking the railway line is named after the London and North Eastern Railway locomotive number 4468 Рbetter known as the Mallard, built in 1938 it was holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph. It was a regular site on the tracks around here until it was decommissioned in 1963 around the time that this New Barnet street was being laid out.
