Limes Field Road, SW14

Place Name

First named in 1907, this was named after the house at 123 Mortlake High Street, then called The Limes and later, after 1895, the Council House – when it became the offices of Branes Urban District Council. The house was built sometime around 1720 and the grounds included the land between the High Street and Worple Way, which became known as Limes field and indeed an avenue of limes ran from the house through the field until they were cut down in 1896.
