Formerly a footpath, it is named after a former pub, the Leather Bottle and later Ye Old Leather Bottle, that had stood in the area from at least the mid-17thCentury. In 1783 it was acquired by Taskers, a brewers from Dartford, when it was described as the Leather Bottle at Chalk-Stile. There is evidence for the pub’s name back to 1726. It was knocked down in 2016.
