Larch Road, E10

Place Name

Built as part of a development by Waltham Forest Housing Action Trust on the site of Oliver Close council estate and one of a network of streets named after trees. Nearby streets on the estate include Alpine Way, Camella Close, Magnolia Close, Osier Way, Pine Close, Robinia Crescent, Tupelo Road, and Walnut Road. Larches are conifers and found in the mountains of cold-temperate zones such as Russia, Central Europe, United States and Canada. In European folklore, larch was said to protect against enchantment. The wearing and burning of larch was thought to protect against evil spirits. The street was first developed and made up between 1990 – 2001.
