Lampton Road, TW5

Place Name

Directional took its name as the road from Hounslow to the village of Lampton. The village, which comes from the Old English words lamb and tūn meaning the enclosure were lambs are reared, was first recorded as such in 1376 as Lamptonfeld becoming Lampton in 1426 and later Lambton in 1611. David Mills in a Dictionary of London Place Names notes: “Its situation just south of Osterley (also a name related to sheep farming) is interesting.”
