Place Name
Directional the road that leads to Kenton. The name Kenton means the farm or estate connected with Cœna, the Latin word for lord, or from the personal name Cēna. Either way the name is the same as that associated with both Kenley and Kensington, although it may not necessary be the same person. Kernton was first mentioned in 1233 at Keninton and by 1282 it was being recorded as Kenygtone. By the following century it was being referred to as Kentyngton Next Harogh and later still, in 1546 at Kenton al. Kynyton.
