John Fisher (circa October 19, 1469 – June 22, 1535) was an English Catholic bishop, cardinal, and theologian at the time of Henry VIII. He was executed on the orders of Henry VIII during the English Reformation for refusing to accept the monarch as Supreme Head of the Church of England and for upholding the Roman Catholic Church’s doctrine of papal supremacy. He is said to have ended up on the same mortician’s table as Thomas More, the two having been executed within a week or two of each other. Both were subsequently made saints by the Catholic Church.
