Named in honour of Jenny Hammond (December 19, 1894 – 1988), a Labour Party councillor and former mayor of Walthamstow. A long-time stalwart of the Labour Party, which she joined in 1926 during the General Strike, she was heavily involved in the local community, variously organising the local meals on wheels service in 1948 to sitting as a magistrate for 20 years. The road was named after her in the 1980s. This was followed in the early 1990s with the renaming of Cann Hall School to the Jenny Hammond Primary School.
