First mentioned sometime around 1190 as Ysmongerelane, it was Ismongers Lane by 1227 and by 1485 Ironmongerlane. It was where the former ironmongery trade worked and sold their wares close to Cheapside. The Ironmongers’ Company had their original Hall here until 1517.
